BREDA stands for Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency. It was established to promote the development of schemes on non-conventional energy sources. BREDA has been nominated as the nodal agency to carry out the remote village electrification program. The State Government provides plan funds to BREDA for expenditure on subsidies for the schemes and also for the expenditures on establishment. BREDA is one of the premier organizations and has been working in the field of renewable energy development and energy conservation. It is registered under the Society Registration Act 1860 and was established in 1987.

Objectives:

1. To promote the development and utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and hydro power.
2. To reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change.
3. To provide energy access to rural and remote areas.
4. To promote energy conservation and efficiency.

Functions:

1. Identification and development of renewable energy projects.

3. Providing technical and financial assistance to entrepreneurs and developers.
4. Conducting research and development in renewable energy technologies.
5. Creating awareness and promoting education and training in renewable energy.

1. Solar Power Program: BREDA promotes the use of solar power for electricity generation, water pumping, and cooking.
2. Wind Power Program: BREDA encourages the development of wind power projects in Bihar.
3. Biomass Power Program: BREDA promotes the use of biomass energy for power generation and cooking.
